The city of Miyako is located at the easternmost point of Honshu island. The area is a natural treasure trove that includes two natural parks. Rikuchu Kaigan National Park lies along the coast at Jodogahama beach, characterized by its sawtooth-shaped coastline. Hayachine Quasi-National Park covers the Kitakami mountain region with Mt. Hayachine as its highest peak, well-known for its wealth of alpine plants. Offshore, the convergence of warm and cold currents creates a world-class fishing ground teeming with a variety of marine life such as salmon, sardines, cod, squid and abalone. Here, commercial fishing and marine product processing are a normal part of life, and Miyako continues to develop as a 'city of marine products and tourism'.
