Hachimantai City

The city of Hachimantai is located northwest of the prefectural capital, Morioka, and borders the cities of Senboku and Kazuno of Akita Prefecture to the east and Takkomachi of Aomori Prefecture to the north. It is situated roughly in the middle of the northern part of the Tohoku region (Aomori, Akita and Iwate Prefectures). Geographically, the region is a transportation hub of highways, roads and railway lines that provide excellent links to other prefectures.
To the west of the city sits a mountain range, with Hachimantai (1613m) at its center. Here, visitors can immerse themselves in the vast expanse of natural beauty found in the old growth forests of birch and fir trees in Towada-Hachimantai National Park. Surrounded by a mystical landscape characteristic of a volcanic zone, this area is also home to numerous hot springs.
